JFKS Absence Policy
Parents are required to notify the school within three days of any given period of absence by providing the homeroom teacher with a written excuse. The excuse should include the name of child, date of absence and reason for absence. Normally, valid excuses include illness, medical or legal appointments and legitimate family emergencies.
If your child is sick for more than three days in a row, a doctor's note must be submitted. If the sickness is contagious, a note from the doctor must also be submitted, stating that your child is allowed to participate in school again. In any event, thank you for keeping your child at home if he or she is not feeling well. It is not necessary to call the school offices for absences up to three days.
In the event of an extended leave, where an absence of three days or longer is necessary, the parents must contact the administration and the homeroom teacher. Absences should not be planned beyond the regularly scheduled vacations. If absence is before vacation it has to be agreed on by the principal.
Regular attendance is important for a successful school experience. Any absence for which a proper excuse has not been received during the above period is considered as “unexcused”.
