Please remember next Friday is the end of the first semester and therefore early dismissal. Hort and Late Birds take place as usual. If you decide to pick up your child, please let me know ahead of time and meet us outside the main entrance at 10:25! Thank you.
We will continue learning about our solar system, about how the earth rotates around its axis while it revolves around the sun, what causes night and day and why there are different phases of the moon.
We also started with our positive discipline unit in our classroom. A key part of expressing feelings is being able to name them. We brainstormed how we can feel to increase our emotional vocabulary and started creating an emotional map. Emotional awareness is one of the most critical skills in growing up, when we understand our own emotions, we can actively decide what to do with them. If students have a hard time figuring out what it is they are feeling, they will have a hard time expressing their emotions which can easily cause frustration.
Our next excursion will be to the Planetarium on Monday, February 11th, the first day we get back from winter vacation. For this excursion I will book a school bus, as by BVG it would take too long to get back in time. The kids only need to bring a small backpack with a drink and a snack but also a pencil and an eraser. Thank you!
We will celebrate Fasching on March 5th this year without a theme. Students are welcome to dress up, we will play some games but will have normal school lessons as well.
Last year we had so much fun at the Grips theater we decided to go again to a new play called Schnubbel that goes along with our positive discipline unit and talks about bullying. We will go on Monday, March 25th. Please let me know if you would like to come along.
On the 15th of May the author Lena Hach will visit us in the library and give us a reading from her latest book.
Excursion to the Allied Museum, tba: With the motto of 'When Chocolate Rained Down from the Skies', we want to take a journey back in time to the Berlin Airlift. Highlights of the tour are the story of the “chocolate pilot” Gail S. Halvorsen and an inside tour of a British Hastings TG 503 airplane used in the Airlift. Students will craft their own “chocolate parachutes” and have them dropped from the Airlift plane.
Excursion to the Freilandlabor on the topic of bees, tba
