On Monday we will visit the Garten der Sinne, where the students get to experience a garden with all of their senses excluding sight. They will be led through a parcours with closed eyes. This excursion will kick off our new social studies family and child unit, which we will start by exploring ourselves, our feelings and senses. Students should bring a small backpack with a snack and a drink and their pencil case. We should be back in time for our last two school hours.
On Thursday most of all teachers will go to the Senat's Personalversammlung, which we were invited to since our move from the Bezirk to the Senate. Students will be supervised by Erzieher. No regular instruction will take place.
Also this week on Friday, we will visit the Allied Museum near Truman Plaza. We haver been trying to organize a tour for quite a while now, and finally we got a spot at short-notice. We will use the 70th anniversary of the Luftbrücke to look back into history, creating a family timeline with important historical and personal events, which is also part of our family unit. Students should bring a small backpack with a snack and a drink.
Please be aware that the week after that will be a very short one! On Memorial Day (Monday) and Himmelfahrt (Donnerstag and Friday) the school will be closed. Regular instruction will take place only on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In Math we will start working with measurements and start off by measuring our bodies (length, width, how long are our hands, arms, legs fingers etc.). All students need to bring in a ruler, please! A short ruler with cm and mm is enough. I will provide the students with longer measuring tape.
Our excursion to the Naturkundemuseum was a great success. Students worked together in expert groups to research about a dinosaur of their choice. Each group created a poster about their dinosaur. This Monday during our last two social studies hour all groups will get the chance to present their poster and what they have learned to their fellow students. If your child would still like to research some more facts at home or print out a picture, please let them use this child-appropriate search platform: www.fragfinn.de
I need at least one, preferably two, chaperones for our excursion to the Barbarini museum on Wednesday June 5th. You will accompany us on the S-Bahn ride to Potsdam and back and will assist the students at the museum, where they will create their own Picasso art. Your help is needed and greatly appreciated, please let me know via email if you can come along.
Upcoming Events :
Bitte an diesem Tag keine Strumpfhosen anziehen!
We are invited to visit the Barberini Museum in Potsdam on Wednesday the 5th of June for a workshop about Picasso and his late works. We will get a tour of his paintings, talk about his distinctive style and will then go to an art studio inside the building to get our inspirations onto paper and try some of the methods we learned about.
The year went by so fast! We will go on our end-of-year picnic to the playground in Kladow. We will go by S-Bahn to Wannsee and then take the ferry to Kladow on June 14th.
Author Lena Hach will visit us in the library and give us a reading from her latest book. Even though the presentation is in German, English Mother Tongue students also will join this book talk.
